Everything Instagram

With around 100 million photos shared every day it is no surprise that the Social Media Association kicked off its webinar series with the social media giant, Instagram. On Thursday, August 19th, SMA’s first webinar entitled, Everything Instagram, was led by Hilary Topper, President & CEO of HJMT PR.

People love taking and viewing photos, but more importantly people love being able to tell their story. With a platform that allows you to customize photos with seemingly endless filters and backgrounds, Instagram allows you to focus on the pictures. Whether it is travelers sharing pictures from their latest adventure, or businesses sharing pictures of their latest products, Instagram provides a platform in which stories can be told through pictures and videos. It also provides another platform where the idea is to engage with others through pictures and videos.

Pictures and videos with hashtags are a great way to drive engagement for your own personal account or for your business’s brand. Because of platforms like Instagram, hashtags like #TBT, #FBF, and #OOTD have become mainstream in our daily lives. This is especially the case for millennials as 64% of users are between 18-29 years old.

Even with all the attention surrounding Instagram, it becomes important to understand who you are and what your business is as Instagram may not be right for your business. If your business’s target market is an older generation, you can still stay active on Instagram, but it may not be where your business puts all of their marketing time and energy. If Instagram is right for you or your business, it is always best to make a plan ahead of time in order to get the most out of each of your posts.

With Instagram timing is key as the best time to post is between 10 am – 3 pm. Also, you want to make sure that you’re not diluting your follower’s feeds by posting multiple pictures a day as that could cause them to lose interest and unfollow your account. It is recommended that you post 1 quality picture per day with some popular #’s to increase your follower base and get your story out there.

But in the meantime, get your pictures and clever captions, and post away!
