SMA Celebrates Social Media Day, Receives Proclamation

Together with Seasons 52 in Garden City, the Social Media Association hosted Social Media Day on June 30th, 2015. The event sparked a great turnout as the night was filled with conversations, networking, and new business connections. The evening was highlighted when Director of Special Projects Peter DiSilvio from Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano’s office, presented the Social Media Association with a Proclamation recognizing June 30th as Social Media Day in Nassau County.

During Peter’s presentation he mentioned how his team’s number one concern is to help Nassau County Executive Mangano with social media and establish his social presence. With Ed Mangano being one of the most followed politicians in the State of New York, Peter and his team uses those social media outlets to push the barriers of government and constituent interaction. One-of-a-kind applications such as Nassau Now, Nassau Works, and Nassau County Crime Stoppers are great ways the constituent can reach out to their government and unlike most apps they can be confident their opinions are heard. On the employer side, Peter stresses how businesses can use social media platforms to reach thousands of prospective job seekers in an attempt to recruit top talent. Peter concluded his presentation with a Q & A further interacting with the event’s guests.

Additionally the Social Media Association received three new members as they awarded County Executive Ed Mangano, Bill Florio (Another member of the Nassau County Executive Mangano’s Special Projects Team), and Peter with membership certificates. The night ended with The Social Life Saver winning drink of the night, narrowly beating out The Rusty Email and The Zuckerpunch. Stay tuned for the next Social Media Association event!
